Welcome to Speak it Thrice!
My childhood home was full of poetry: read to me at night, recited at breakfast, pulled eagerly off a shelf, scrawled on the tags of birthday presents. Serious or silly, it was all loved in that house–and it was all in meter. I used to hide inside the Forsythia bush, reciting rhythms to myself untilI I fell into a trance.
When I told my seventh-grade teacher that I wanted to be a poet,he set me straight: “You need to write free verse. Serious poets don’t write meter anymore,”
But poetry’s forms and meters didn’t let me go. I’ve devoted my life to honoring their call. This podcast is my thanks to the poems I love.
In each episode, I share a favorite poem and unwrap the secret structures and powers that make it shine! From classic favorites to contemporary gems, l honor each poem with reverence for the sacred interstices where its form and meaning are one.
