The original self-published edition of The Encylopedia of Scotland, text typed by Annie Finch on an IBM Selectric after work in the offices of Natural History Magazine at the American Museum of Natural History. Printed in an edition of 200 copies by Hamilton Newell Printers in Amherst, MA hours before Annie’s first performance of the poem with jazz-blues-rock band Fiction Music Ensemble, banners, and a bagpiper at Hampshire College. Includes a frontispiece photo of Annie draped in gauze curtain regalia at Gull Island in Moosehead Lake, c. 1982; four black-and-white illustrations by Alix Baer Bacon; and Annie’s line drawing of “Calliope and the Sheep.”
