This is a two-minute sketch of my Muse. Today’s version has a glowing sun for a face and a huge triple moon spanning her chest. Her four arms end in spirals of energy, and her vulva is pounding love out through the world, in the same color as her legs, which are radiant rows of diverse metrical feet–anapests, dactyls, amphibrachs, and a few more on the left; trochees, iambs, spondees, and pyrrhics on the right— carrying her forward (you may also see a big Wand, Cup, and half-stress hidden in her body — terminology you will remember if you have read the Meter chapters of A Poet’s Craft!)
I’ve done this practice—based on one of the Poetry Practices in chapter 1, “Inspiration,” from A Poet’s Craft—a number of times, teaching workshops based on the book. This one today is for the first Facebook page ever created for A Poet’s Craft. It’s the inaugural “challenge” based on the Poetry Practices in the book. If you like to write poetry, you’re invited to join us on the page and post your own picture/poem to the Muse!
