ANNIE FINCH’S HEALING RHYTHMS OF WORDS
A TRANSFORMATIONAL PATH THROUGH RHYTHMIC LANGUAGE
Rhythmic words—the beat of charms and spells— offer an ancient and powerful path for uniting body and spirit, idea and intuition, humanity and nature, and the hemispheres of the brain. Like a yoga class for the mind, the Healing Rhythms of Words workshop uses a series of language-postures to access and transform the energy of mind, body, heart, will, and spirit.
You don't need to be a writer, artist, yogi or seeker to unlock your power of self-realization, self-awareness, and self-empowerment with the secrets of rhythm (though all of these kinds of people have benefitted from Healing Rhythms of Words Workshops!) All you need is an open heart and a notebook. No writing experience is necessary.
The core of the Healing Rhythms of Words method is five different language rhythms, each of which connects to a different part of ourselves: mind, body, heart, will, and spirit. Annie will introduce each rhythm in a way that gives you everything you need to know to start exploring this rhythm and the hidden part of yourself to which it leads.
Based in Annie life's work in language, creative self-expression, and personal healing, Healing Rhythms of Words Workshops combine a poet's skill and insight with a healer's touch.
Q have never written creatively before. Will I get anything from this workshop?
Yes. The Healing Rhythms of Words builds on rhythmic knowledge that is equally available to all of us, and it presumes no prior writing experience.
Q What do you mean "writing and healing"? Is this a writing workshop, a healing workshop, a personal growth workshop, or . . . ?
It is any and all of this, depending on your needs. Rhythmical language opens a unique channel between the conscious and unconscious, and Healing Rhythms of Words offers the profound healing and growth that can come through radical self-awareness. At the same time, the secrets of rhythmical writing you will learn in the Healing Rhythms of Words will help any writer to be more effective.
Q I'm not really interested in writing, but I am interested in developing myself psychologically and spiritually. Will this workshop help me on my path?
Yes. The reason that poets are often considered spiritual teachers is that the skill of rhythmic language can connect us with wisdom beyond our conscious selves. The tools you will learn in Healing Rhythms of Words offer a path to communicate with unheard parts of yourself.
Q I have an advanced degree in creative writing. Will I learn anything in this course that I don't know already?
Yes. The odds are that you will learn information that is completely new to you since most graduate programs today, even in poetry writing, don't teach rhythmical writing. Even if you have learned some of the same material, the Healing Rhythms of Words approaches it in a holistic and ritually aware manner that is very different from an academic setting.
Q How did you develop this method?
My family traced its heritage through the cultures of Celtic bards and Norse volurs, and I was raised with the rhythms of poetry spoken aloud. In graduate school, I discovered my passion for the forgotten craft of poetic rhythm and developed ways to teach and write in a radical range of language rhythms. As my witchy spirituality developed, eventually I combined the two together.
