The musical and complex poems in Annie FInch’s book Calendars must be heard aloud to be fully experienced. Annie worked on these recordings over a period of a year and a half, creating and editing together multiple versions to arrive at the version that she felt most embodied each poem.
Interspersed among the poems are gorgeous brief interludes of Renaissance-style harp music performed by Mac Ritchey.
This CD version of Calendars shows that, as National Book Award winner Marilyn Hacker observed at the book’s initial publication, “Annie Finch’s poems remind us how the condition of music re-creates the condition of thought.”
