Poet, author, translator, editor, and playwright Annie Finch has published more than 20 books and chapbooks of poetry and poetics, including Calendars, The Encyclopedia of Scotland, Among the Goddesses, Eve, The Body of Poetry, A Formal Feeling Comes, An Exaltation of Forms, and her newest book, Spells: New and Selected Poems. Annie’s incantation-like poetry has been featured on Def Poetry Jam, National Public Radio, and Voice of America, and has appeared in leading literary journals including The Paris Review, Poetry, and The Kenyon Review and in anthologies including The Norton Anthology of World Poetry and The Penguin Book of Twentieth Century American Poetry.

Annie has performed her poetry across the U.S. and in France, Spain, Greece, Canada, Africa, and the U.K.. Her operas, multimedia poetic dramas, and other collaborations with theater, music, and visual arts have been produced at venues including Carnegie Hall, Chicago Art Institute, American Opera Projects, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Annie Finch’s books about poetry include the anthology Villanelles—named one of Garrison Keillor’s top holiday gift books—and the popular writing guides A Poet’s Craft: A Comprehensive Guide to Making and Sharing Your Poetry and A Poet’s Ear: A Handbook of Meter and Form. She has been quoted in The New York Times, read her poetry on Voice of America, and had her birthday honored on NPR’s Writers Almanac.

Educated at Yale University and Stanford University, Annie Finch currently directs the Stonecoast MFA program in Creative Writing at the University of Southern Maine. She is a Senior Fellow at the Black Earth Institute, artist-in-residence at Cherry Hill Seminary, and a recipient of the Robert Fitzgerald Award from the West Chester Poetry Conference and the Sarasvati Award from the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology.

A featured columnist for The Huffington Post, Annie also blogs as American Witch at her website, anniefinch.com, where her newsletter has attracted a following with its blend of spiritual meditation and lore, poetry, and cultural criticism. She is currently at work on "American Witch," a memoir about earth-centered spirituality.  Mother of two children, Julian and Althea, she lives on the Maine coast with her husband, environmentalist Glen Brand.
